IKWRO was founded in 2002 by our Executive Director, Diana Nammi. IKWRO was set up in response to a need for a specialist organisations working against ‘honour’ based violence and forced marriage in the community languages. We give culturally specific support, advocacy and advice for women in English, Farsi, Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, Pashto and Dari. Our counselling service is available in English, Persian, Kurdish and Arabic. IKWRO’s mission is to protect Middle Eastern and Afghan women and girls who are at risk of ‘honour’ based violence, forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation and domestic violence and to promote their rights. We provide direct services for women and girls, including:

  • Advice and advocacy
  • Training
  • Outreach
  • Counselling
  • Support groups
  • Youth groups

We also provide advice and support to professionals such as the police, social services and schools to help them to understand issues affecting ethnic minority women and we campaign for better laws and their effective implementation as well as for appropriate resources to uphold the rights of women and girls and ensure their safety.
